The Privacy Issue — Ring
Ring (owned by Amazon) has a history of sharing user footage with law enforcement without requiring a warrant. Through their "Request for Assistance" program, police could request footage directly from Ring, which Ring could legally share. Amazon ended proactive police partnerships in 2022 following backlash, but law enforcement can still subpoena footage. If privacy from government access is a concern, Eufy or Arlo store footage in ways that make direct Amazon cooperation less possible. All three companies can be served with valid legal process.
The Storage Cost Reality
The biggest practical difference between these brands is subscription cost. If you want to review footage from the past 24+ hours, Ring requires a paid plan. Eufy's HomeBase hub provides free local storage for the entire system. Arlo offers a free tier but limits features. Over 3–5 years, this subscription difference ($0 vs $600–$1,200) often exceeds the cost of the hardware itself.
