Abode is a DIY home security company that carved out a niche by offering flexible, contract-free monitoring and exceptional smart home integration. Unlike ADT or Vivint, Abode doesn't lock you into multi-year agreements or charge installation fees. The system centers around the Abode iota Gateway (a gateway, camera, and hub in one) or the Abode Gateway Pro.

The real differentiator is the protocol support. Abode works natively with Z-Wave, Zigbee, and RF devices in addition to its own sensors, giving it compatibility with hundreds of third-party devices. If you've already invested in smart home gear, Abode can absorb it.

Performance & Reliability

Abode supports fast local sensor alerts and offers cellular backup on eligible monitoring plans. Actual response time, outage behavior, and false-alarm performance depend on the home, connection, device placement, and plan. Test every sensor and backup path after installation.
