Z-Wave Integration for Power Users
For smart home enthusiasts running a Z-Wave hub (Samsung SmartThings, Hubitat, HomeSeer), Yale Assure Lock 2 with the Z-Wave module is the strongest option available. Z-Wave locks communicate on a dedicated frequency separate from Wi-Fi, reducing interference and delivering more reliable lock/unlock commands than Wi-Fi-based locks in dense wireless environments (apartments, condos).
Through SmartThings and Hubitat, Yale enables advanced automations not possible on basic app-controlled locks: "lock when alarm arms", "send a notification if door is unlocked between midnight and 5 AM", or "flash porch lights when lock engages." Power users building complex home automations find Yale's Z-Wave integration the most capable option.
⚠
Hub Required: The Z-Wave module requires a Z-Wave hub for remote access and full automation support. Without a hub, the Z-Wave module only provides local Z-Wave communication — no standalone app control.
